Xunantunich – The Most Visited Mayan Temples in Belize

Xunantunich Cahal Pech Mayan sites are always combined as one tour. Therefore, you kill two birds with one stone, maybe not the best metaphor but it’s surely a popular one in Belize. We love birds too!
Xunantunich located just 9 miles away from San Ignacio town and Cahal Pech situated just a mile (2o minute walk) from down town San Ignacio. Both of these former Mayan villages are linked together by their history. Nevertheless, the tour starts from 9:00 am at your hotel until about 3:00 pm in the the afternoon. First you’ll be picked up at your hotel/resort in San Ignacio (or anywhere in Belize) drive to Xunantunich. Here you’ll experience the ride on a hand cranked ferry, the mode of getting across the river. Once on the other side you’ll hop back in the vehicle to be driven upward to the park parking lot. Next, your guide will start his tour, but before he/she does, you’ll be given time to use the restroom before the tour starts. Immediately after that’s completed your guide will jump right into it.
The touring of Xunantunich takes approximately 2.5 hours. It boast a very beautiful eye catching view from its tallest temple; which over look the mountains and neighboring town and villages. Next, you’ll have lunch, and then make your way to San Ignacio as you make your stop at Cahal Pech. Here you’ll walk some steps to reach the temples themselves.
